We’ve all heard that moms don’t get sick days, and it was so obvious to me how true that was on Monday as I tried to get through our normal daily routine, while still feeling ill. It wasn’t the easiest thing to do, but I still made it through the day, managed to get rest, and got the kids involved to help me feel better! Here are some tips for making it through with your kids when you’re sick:

Sleep When They Sleep: I took it back to the newborn days and used the advice that friends and family gave me then. My youngest still naps for a couple of hours during the day, so when he went down for my nap, I went into my bedroom and took a nap for myself. The best thing I could do for myself was sleep. It not only helps with getting my body healthy, but it also gave me the energy I needed to get through the rest of the day.

Let the Kids Take Care of You: I told my older two that I didn’t feel well that day and they took it upon themselves to help take care of me. It quickly became Doc McStuffins office in our house and they were giving me a checkup to see what was wrong. Although my boy is too young to understand, he did a very good job of rubbing my arms to show his affection. The kids got so much joy out of helping me out because they knew that I needed it. Their compassion helped me get what I needed to feel better.

As parents, we don’t get sick days. That’s why it’s important that when we do get sick, we do the best we can to recover quickly. I don’t get sick often, but when I do, it’s usually when I’m at home with all three. By enlisting in the help of my older children and getting the rest I need, I’m back to feeling better and spending those magical moments with my children.
